Precor is passionate about fitness. It all started with a desire to create a better kind of exercise equipment, one that mirrored human movement: fluid, natural, and dynamic. Twenty-six years later the company's biomechanics and engineering experience have led to countless innovations that have captivated fitness enthusiasts of all ages and abilities. Precor has introduced many "firsts" to the fitness industry, including the Elliptical Fitness Crosstrainer (EFX®) in 1995 and the revolutionary, award-winning Adaptive Motion Trainer (AMT®) in 2007. Today, Precor is a celebrated top-tier brand preferred by fitness enthusiasts of all abilities and their machines are used every day in health clubs, hotels, facilities, and homes worldwide.
Precor was acquired from Illinois Tool Works by Amer Group PLC in the fall of 2002. Amer Group also owns other well known brands like Wilson Sporting Goods. Precor has manufactured high quality equipment since the early 1980's. Although Precor has lost some of their dealer base over the last few years, they have really stepped up in the commercial game and that is where they are really strong. Precor tried to make a dent in the mass market stores but there weren't salepeople that could explain why you had to pay extra for a Precor so they have refocused on specialty retailers.
Their design philosophy is to make a high quality product and then put a fair price on it. Nothing wrong with making money and Precor is definitely one of the companies in this business that knows how to do it. Consumers should consider a commercial Precor if you are looking in the higher price ranges. New models are expected in the Fall of 2014.
Precor has literally made a boatload of money from their elliptical products and deservedly so. We would expect them to remain one of the leading companies in terms of strength in the fitness business. Finally they have given up their premium pricing on the entry level machines.
