Written by admin on August 26, 2009 – 9:06 pm -

10 ways to get moving and shed pounds! By Kathleen Doheny WebMD Feature Reviewed by Brunilda Nazario, MD No time to work out? No time to plan healthy meals? Lack of time isn't the only excuse offered by sedentary people who need to lose weight. Close on its heels is another complaint: Working out just isn't fun, and neither is shopping and cooking "healthy." Exercise and weight loss experts say they hear that all the time -- but it doesn't have to be true. If sedentary Americans -- and that's nearly 40% of adults -- would adopt some fun ways to get fit, chances are good they will pick up the exercise habit for good, experts say. And once the exercise habit kicks in, eating better and losing weight come easier. Getting fit and getting trim is... more

Planning a Home Gym

Written by admin on August 24, 2009 – 10:32 pm -

You are taking the plunge into home fitness. It does not matter if you are looking for weight loss or general fitness, it is a big commitment. Now where do you put your gym? Back in the early years, home fitness equipment was ugly and needed to be in an unfinished basement. Modern fitness equipment is not only better quality but better looking. When deciding to put a home piece of exercise equipment in your house, think about your comfort when using it. A television, MP3 player, window, or good lighting for reading are all things to think about. If an unfinished basement is the place you have, make it feel more comfortable. Rubber flooring is not only affordable but gives you a comfortable place to stretch. Good lighting also makes a difference... more

Top 10 Benefits Of Working Out

Written by admin on August 19, 2009 – 5:12 am -

By Sabrina Rogers NUMBER 10 Helps you sleep better Although it may seem like common sense knowledge, studies linking regular exercise and improved sleep patterns are fairly recent. These studies have shown that moderate to vigorous 20- to 30-minute workouts three to four times a week help you sleep better. However, you should work out in the morning or afternoon rather than close to bedtime, or you may find yourself too energized to sleep. Working out helps you fall and stay asleep more easily, and it increases the amount of time you spend in the deepest stage of sleep. It also improves the quality of your sleep by making the transitions between its cycles smoother and more regular. NUMBER 9 Slows the aging process & reduces the risk of... more

Better Body Image May Boost Women’s Sexual Responses

Written by admin on August 7, 2009 – 6:37 pm -

Feel Attractive, Have Better Sex? By Miranda Hitti WebMD Health News Reviewed by Louise Chang, MD Call it the feeling-frumpy-or-fine phenomenon of sex and aging for women. A new study shows that a woman's sex life may be richer if she thinks she's at least as attractive as she was 10 years earlier. But if she thinks her glory days, in terms of attractiveness, are over, some aspects of her sex life might have faded as well. "This study points out that women's body image was a significant predictor of their specific sexual functioning," researcher Patricia Bartholow Koch, PhD, tells WebMD. Koch is an associate professor of biobehavioral health and women's studies at Pennsylvania State University. The study recently appears in The Journal of Sex... more

You've taken the first step on your way to a new and improved body and mind. "Exercise is the magic pill," says Michael R. Best Heavy-Duty Treadmill for Daily Runners

Written by admin on July 20, 2009 – 3:21 am -

The following review was synthesized from information compiled by ConsumerSearch.com. Their reviewers analyze reviews from multiple professional sources and individual users and make recommendations. Best Heavy-Duty Treadmill for Daily Runners Landice L7 Cardio Trainer TreadmillDoctor.com and Consumer Reports both subject the Landice L7 Cardio Trainer to expert testing and rank it against other treadmills, but neither provides much information about the model's features. Runner's World gets runners to test treadmills, and it provides more detailed test results, but it does not score or rank models. The review at TreadmillSensei.com is longer than the others; it is based on the reviewer's personal experience with the L7 Cardio Trainer. About.com... more

Elliptical Trainer Review

Written by admin on June 29, 2009 – 6:33 pm -

Consumer Reports magazine and TreadmillDoctor.com have the best elliptical trainer reviews. Consumer Reports tests and compares models based on ease of use, safety and value, using both trained fitness professionals and regular people to identify the best elliptical trainers. TreadmillDoctor.com sells replacement parts and supplies for fitness equipment, so editors are in a unique position to judge long-term reliability and value. Websites like Elliptical-Trainers-Review.com and Elliptical-Trainers.com do include some critical comments, but we didn't see any testing methodology discussed. Accordingly, we took the recommendations of these sites with a big grain of salt. Consumer Reports and TreadmillDoctor.com offer much more credible elliptical... more

Budget Elliptical Trainer Reviews

Written by admin on June 29, 2009 – 6:31 pm -

Fitness reviews say that, in general, the best elliptical trainers cost at least $1,000. If $1,000 is beyond your budget for an elliptical trainer, you still have some options, but experts say you shouldn't expect a low-end machine to offer the same flexibility and durability as more expensive elliptical trainers. That's most evident in the manufacturer warranty. On the higher-quality elliptical machines above, one-year warranties are standard, but less expensive models often only back their machines with a 90-day warranty. Reviews like the Schwinn 418 (est $800) , which wins a couple of best-buy ratings. The Schwinn 418 has a flywheel design, like the Smooth elliptical trainers above, and the handlebars move, providing an upper body workout.... more

What to Look for When Buying an Elliptical

Written by admin on June 29, 2009 – 6:20 pm -

Not every elliptical is created equal and you should have a pair of comfortable shoes on ready to test them out. While ellipticals are great for a lot of us, a badly designed one can cause more harm than good. We hope to give you a few tools to take with you while you are searching for yours. An elliptical, simply put, is a non-impact cardiovascular product where the pedal moves in an ellipse pattern. You can find them in all different forms: rear drive, front drive and core drive. You can find them with adjustable strides and adjustable inclines. You can also find them fully programmable, complete with mp3 inputs, fans and some come with TV’s. What is important to your search and important to your success with your new elliptical is what... more
